Weekly Devotional

It is a story worth telling: a paraphrased version of the Good Samaritan [Luke 10:29-37]. You see a man was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho one day and was attacked by robbers and left by the roadside for dead.

It just so happened that a priest went by him on the road (and thought, “What will happen to me if I get involved here?”) So he quickly crossed to the other side and walked on…

Not long after a Levite also came by, saw the man on the side of the road (and thought, “Oh, my, what will happen if I get involved here?” He also quickly passed to the other side and walked on…

BUT, then a most unacceptable, ill-reputable, half-breed Samaritan came to where the man lay naked and bleeding, took compassion on him (and thought, “What will happen if I DON’T get involved here?”)

He gently tended the man’s wounds, put him on his own donkey and took him to the nearest place to care for him. The next day he pays in advance for the man to stay, be fed and cared for.

JESUS asks the lawyer, “Then who is truly his neighbor?” He had to answer, “The one who showed him mercy.” And JESUS said, “Go and do likewise.”
